Arranging & Song Selection

Song Selection

Guidelines for song selection:

1. Open your mind to all the possibilities and songs of the world. Do not prejudge whether or not a song would 'sound good' in your mind. You'd be surprised what some people can hear that others may dismiss.
2. If you say "I love this song!", sing it. If you don't....
3. Does the song make you excited to go to rehearsals and out in the work to make it it's best?

There are too many wonderful music pieces through the centuries. You can find songs to fit your mold. If you do not have 100% enthusiasm for the song, it may not perform as well as having 100% agreement from the first read through.

Arrangements

There are several compelling reasons why someone would want a custom choral arrangement:

1. **Tailored to Specific Needs:** A custom choral arrangement allows the director or conductor to create a piece of music that perfectly suits the abilities and characteristics of their particular choir.

2. **Showcasing Originality:** Custom choral arrangements offer a chance to showcase originality and creativity.

3. **Personalizing Performances:** When singers and audiences know that the piece has been arranged specifically for them, it adds a sense of connection and meaning to the performance, making the performance more memorable and impactful.

4. **Flexibility and Adaptability:** With a custom choral arrangement, the composer can fine-tune the music based on the choir's ability, making adjustments to dynamics, tempo, or vocal parts as needed to achieve the best possible result.

5. **Copyright and Licensing:** When dealing with copyrighted music or arranging existing compositions, having a custom choral arrangement ensures that the necessary permissions and licensing are obtained, avoiding any legal issues. It allows for a legal and ethical approach to creating unique versions of copyrighted works.
