What does starting with personal identity have to do with music selection?
We see time and time again, performers sing a piece incredibly well, but we never connect them into the song or associate them with that same song. Could this be because the song really didn't connect with their identity as a person strong enough to pour over the footlights?
What if you could take the simple steps to have the same type of impact and memorable performance as some of the great artists of time?
What if your own personal "data" was enough to lead you to the best musical choices and strongest performances?
What if your level of performance raised quicker than before because of the song choice?
Why would starting with your personal identity matter when choosing a performance piece?
1. Work smarter not harder by building the performance from within.
2. Get to your performance goals quicker because you do not need to 'get into the song'.
3. Sing songs that attach themselves to you and become an extension of you.
About 20 years ago I found out my chorus was going to learn Glory of Love. I was so excited that we were finally going to sing a song from the 1980s, and a Peter Cetera one at that. And then I got the music and it was not the same. I can't describe how disappointed I was. The other one is a great song too, but not what I was expecting. Every group I've sung with since has the old Glory of Love in their repertoire, and everyone knows that I'd still rather be singing the Peter Cetera one. And now I can. :-)
